Making Apple Butter

Ready for Halloween

The sweet smell of apples and the smoke of our open fire will entice visitors to come and check out what is cooking. The Smithville Community Historical Society Open House at the Pioneer Village and Mishler Weaving Mill on Saturday, October 20 from 1:30 to 4 P.M. 


Come and take a turn at stirring apple butter cooking over an open fire. Observe our Blacksmith, Potter's, Tinsmith and Wheelwright working at the Pioneer Village and tour the Downey Pioneer Visitor Center, Lydo Barn, Spring House/Summer Kitchen and Depot. A special display of Halloween candy containers from the 1940- 1950's will be in the Caboose - Children's Museum. 


A Hymn Sing will be held in the Church of God throughout the afternoon with music by Dorothy Hodgdon and sons. This family group has played on Saturday evenings at our Christmas in the Village. They will be playing a variety instruments, with Dorothy playing the piano or antique pump organ. Their selections will be from the Church of God hymnals which will bring back many cherished memories while you sing along. 


The Mishler Weaving Mill will be open along with the Greater Akron Model-T Museum, Heritage Center with early education area and photography exhibit. The Gift Shop in the Mishler Weaving Mill is always full of shopping ideas.
